Daily Billboard Blog’s 3 of a Kind – Streaming Wars

Today the Daily Billboard Blog thought we’d shine a spotlight on the ongoing ‘Streaming Wars’ in the entertainment industry, especially in light of the recent rebranding and relaunch of CBS All Access as Paramount+, and how these new streaming services have launched their platforms with outdoor advertising around Los Angeles. First up is a first wave launch billboard for Disney+ spotted along Ventura Boulevard in October 2019, trying to use its outdoor advertising to highlight the breadth of its TV and movie offerings, live-action, animation and documentaries, plus the company’s iconic brands and characters like Disney, Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar and National Geographic.
Take a look at more of the  Disney+ launch billboards.
About six months later AT&T’s WarnerMedia was launching the new premium streaming service HBO Max, with outdoor ads like this spotted above L.A.’s Pico Boulevard in May 2020. The platform again was trying to show off its wide variety of programming from fan-favorite dramas to late-night, preschool to cartoons offered from Warner Bros. Studios and HBO’s extensive back catalogue of TV shows and movies.
Be sure to also check out more of the cohesive HBO Max launch campaign.
And the third example, also using a composite ad design is for the newly rebooted Paramount+, spied above Beverly Boulevard in February 2021. This new subscription streaming service is trying to leverage the content of its ownerViacomCBS, from original fan-favorite Star Trek series that streamed on CBS All Access to blockbuster animated films for kids like the new SpongeBob movie and popular long-running reality competition series like Survivor. The ad campaign also leans into the recognizable Paramount mountain logo with all the ‘peak’ copy.\
Plus make sure you check out these other Paramount+ launch billboards filling the city skyline at the moment.
All these competitors may have used a few different approaches to help launch their services, but when you boil it all down their real focus was telling people they had something for everyone, young and old, different genres, fan-favorite and nostalgic characters and high-quality content.
Next month to hopefully celebrate the reopening of the majority of cinemas around the country, we’ll be sharing three special installations adorning Hollywood’s iconic Cinerama Dome in recent years.
