An update from our Monday post on Sky Digital’s proposed new digital structure in Crookston, MN. After attorneys for Sky Digital and Crookston National Bank Monday evening stated and restated their cases for and against the digital billboard, the City Planning Commission, and the Crookston City Council, both voted in favor of a conditional use permit request from Sky Digital that clears the way for the two-sided electronic billboard.
Next stop will be at the Minnesota Department of Transportation, which will have to approve the billboard once it determines exactly how far back from U.S. Highway 2 the billboard needs to be placed.
The attorney for Sky Digital focused on the University of Minnesota Crookston’s request for an electronic billboard on University property and the city’s decision then to modify its sign ordinance to allow a limited number of billboards along major corridor.
Mayor Gary Willhite, prior to the council vote, stressed that the Crookston Firefighters Association, not the Crookston Fire Department, which is a City entity, owns the property on which the billboard will be erected. At a previous discussion on the billboard, it was mentioned that Sky Digital will pay the CFA $450 a month for the use of their property.
Insiders Take – Chalk one up for consistency. Lets hope that the MN DOT stays consistent with their guidelines too.
