Concentrate on What You Can Control

Insider received this outstanding advice from an independent out of home company yesterday.

“We have been busy doing a lot of things that get pushed to the back burner when you are busy selling.  Resetting time clocks, trimming brush, cleaning and organizing the office and also our storage areas just to name a few.  We have tabled a new build we are working on and also a program we started a couple months back that requires a little bit of capital.  We are holding on those until things start moving again and then we’ll pull the trigger to keep moving forward.
One thing I found very interesting was your advice from an article I read on Insider a couple days ago.  You said to contact the Bank you deal with and update them on things you are doing to help look out for their best interest too.  I reached out to our Bank and had a nice, 15 minute conversation with them.  I went over a lot of the things in this email and assured them we are being very proactive in looking out for both our and their best interest.  Our banker told me that she appreciated the call and that our conversation was the ONLY positive conversation she had had in the past two weeks!  Thank you for that recommendation and I strongly encourage any operator reading this to do the same.  You’ll be surprised how it will brighten your day and the day of the person on the other end of the line.
We have tried to be very proactive with our clients, suggesting copy ideas for restaurants, donating space for PSA type announcements promoting delivery, pickup, etc.  Basically anything we can do to think outside the box a little and bring some added value for our clients in a very uncertain time for them.
While uncertainty and anxiety can creep into your mind, we have tried to be very proactive and stay in a positive mind frame by concentrating on the things we can control.  And, by staying with positive thoughts, it helps keep the momentum going.  We have brainstormed areas we want to jump on the minute things open back up so hopefully we can build some momentum for both us and our clients right out of the gate.”
Insider’s take:  Concentrate on what you can control. Chris Cowlbeck said the same thing in his IBOUSA newsletter yesterday.  This should be your company’s motto for the next two months.  Write it in large letters and tape it up near your desk.
