WV Outdoor. is a family owned out of home company serving West Virginia. WV Outdoor was founded in 1929 by John Vickers Ray. It is currently the largest independently owned outdoor billboard company in West Virginia, with over 1,700 faces throughout West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky and Maryland. Billboard Insider talked with Bill Lodzinski is the company’s President and CEO and a member of the OAAA board of directors.
How many total billboard faces are you up to and how many of your total faces are digital.
We currently have a little over 1,700 faces covering primarily in WV as well as the border states of OH, MD and KY. Our digital screen count is at 56 right now. We were fortunate enough to make a few small “tuck in” acquisitions last year that increased our count and expanded our footprint.

What’s occupying the biggest portion of your time right now?
It’s never one thing. The key items are (1) The constant management and enhancement of our lease portfolio. (2) Constantly and consistently focusing on growing and scaling our business. (3) Most importantly, personnel matters. Making sure I’m doing my part in taking care of the people in my charge. Not only in addressing their individual needs, but insuring that the team is working together cohesively and adhering to our standards.
In 2023 you wanted to add some digitals in Charleston, West Virginia after the city passed a cap and replace ordinance. Any updates?
Yes, it’s been fantastic for us. We’ve added 4 high profile digital screens with another one schedule for Q2. We expe ct to generate millions in revenue from these conversions. Revenue that would not have been realized with the cap and replace ordinance. Plus, we reduced our lease expenses due to the removal of non-productive billboards.
What are some of your other objectives for 2025?
We are exploring the possibility of utilizing the programmatic platform to enhance our sales efforts. As I mentioned in the past, we are very bullish about our digital footprint and very proud of the success our sales team has had in utilizing our digital screens to address the needs of our local advertisers. As we continue to expand our digital presence, it certainly would not hurt to look at opportunities to fill in any gaps.
