TDO stands for Toledo Detroit Outdoor Advertising.  The company was founded in 2015  The firm operates more than 92 billboard faces including 18 digital billboard faces in Ann Arbor, Detroit and Toledo.  Lafe Schneider is the firm’s President.

Lafe, how did you get into the out of home business?

I started in the OOH business during the summer of my junior year in college as I was hired by Billy Long and Phil Vasquez as an intern for one year at CBS Outdoor in the Pompano, FL office. I simply fell in love with the business/industry. Upon graduation I was hired as an account executive. I’m forever grateful for the internship that I received as I learned so much about the industry as a whole.

What’s new over the past year?

As for TDO, we’re still growing and adding inventory. We had a fantastic 2024 and are excited for 2025.  We are dealing with one setback with the city of Toledo as they amended the sign code without notifying any sign companies. For OOH companies, they removed pole structures and now only allow 90 sq ft monument signs. That will be one of my biggest tasks in the next couple of months.
You use SignBird for your billboard photos?
We hired them about a year ago as part of their marketing package. We needed to update our photo sheets, which are essential for any OOH sales team. I was thrilled with the results when we received the photos back in June. The approach shots, captured using drone technology, were particularly impressive. I highly recommend SignBird for anyone looking to update their photosheets; they’re the best in the business.Take a look at these photos.
Here’s a picture of one of our signs that we took.

And here’s the same sign as photographed by SignBird.
Another important aspect of this project was the timing. We shot the photos in June to ensure the weather, sky, foliage, and traffic were optimal for our Midwestern inventory. I’ve seen countless photosheets over the years with gray skies, bare trees, and other issues, so we wanted to avoid those pitfalls.
