During the 1950’s Richard Deeble entered the outdoor advertising business while located in California. Proven a success in the field, Richard Deeble later purchased the Standish Johnson Company from the founding families. The Standish Johnson Company transitioned from the original outdoor advertising entity New England Outdoor to its current name Standish Johnson Company. At that time, the Standish Johnson Company encompassed the second largest New England media market with a prominent billboard presence in Rhode Island and Eastern Connecticut. In later years, Richard Deeble sold the RI plant to a national company White Co, who later sold to Lamar Advertising Co. Richard Deeble retained the Standish Johnson Company and its Connecticut locations.
