Insider had the opportunity to spend a few minutes with Matthew Sapp, General Manager of Sapp Outdoor. Established in 1949, Sapp Outdoor has served Statesboro and southeast Georgia for more than 65 years.

Hi Matthew, so is Sapp Outdoor still a family affair?

We are still a family affair, with Neal as president and Zach and I handling daily operations.

It has been almost two years since we last touched base. Can you bring us up to date on the business?

Business is well, but we are facing new challenges as our markets are growing rapidly. We have had to remove a couple of locations due to development, but are in the process of obtaining permits for new locations. As it stands now, we are installing static panels on all of our new location developments.

Looking forward to 2023, what are your plans for the business?

Digital is something we contemplate often, but want to be sure of long term success before committing. In smaller markets such as ours, the digital locations built are usually bought by larger national companies in the first few years. For the time being, static panels are the best option for us.

Can Georgia make it two National Championships in a row?

I don’t believe there is a team in the playoff that can hang with UGA for 4 quarters. Seems that back-to-back titles are likely for the Dawgs. But, adversely, no one knows quite how to choke like our beloved Georgia sports programs. It will be interesting!
