Ralston Outdoor is the largest independent outdoor advertising company in North Texas.  The company was founded in Dallas in 1976 by Doug Ralston.  Ralston operates a plant of over 240 faces including 10 digital faces throughout the greater Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and other North Texas locations.   The company is an operator associate of the IBOUSA.      Insider talked with Operating Partner Ben Ralston about the business.

How did Ralston get started into the outdoor business.

My dad, Doug Ralston started in the business after law school in 1974; first working for Perry Outdoor (my grandfather’s company) and then starting Ralston Outdoor in 1976.

What’s new at Ralston Outdoor

As far as Ralston Outdoor, it’s been a pretty routine year. We built a couple of locations the last several months and are preparing to build a new digital unit in east Texas later this fall. We are going with Formetco for that project. Locally in Dallas I have spent a bunch of time lately on a relocation project. We are relocating a board from IH-30 over to the John Carpenter Frwy (SH 183) due to TXDOT expansion. The city of Dallas approved my permit a couple of weeks ago and we are now waiting on the fabrication of the new billboard. That’s about it.

You’re expanding your restaurant activities

My restaurant partner and I just recently opened a new bar called the Lucky Dog Saloon back in July. The Lucky Dog is located down Routh Street from our Katy Trail Ice House in Uptown. We’ve got the best selection of bourbon and Scotch in town and we’ve got a hand painted billboard on one of the exterior walls.
