Marquee Media operates high profile digital billboards in California.  The company is co-owned by Jeff Joaquin and Michael Wagener.  This month the Sacramento Kings awarded Marquee the right to build 6 digital billboards along major freeways in Sacramento.  Rights to build the digital signs were included in a deal between the city and the Sacramento Kings to build the Golden 1 Center downtown.  Marquee will handle all operations of the boards in exchange for paying a fee to the Sacramento Kings.

jeff-joaquinInsider talked with Marquee President and c0-founder Jeff Joaquin whose out of home experience includes stints with Clear Channel Outdoor in Los Angeles and San Francisco, Patrick Media, Eller Media and Westfield.

How did you get into the out of home advertising business Jeff?

I started in the Real Estate department at Foster & Kleiser in 1984 out of college, and thought I’d only stay to build a resume.   Thirty two years later I’m still in the out of home business and have fulfilled a dream I’ve had since Karl Eller bought the company I was working for ( Patrick Media Group ) in 1995 and that was to eventually own my own billboard company. Little did I know then, that it would take me back to where it all started for me, in Sacramento and partnering with the Sacramento Kings.

We are quickly building the most advanced and highest resolution digital network in the country. We hope to take digital OOH to the next level.  Our network of digital displays once completed will be 15 Ultra High Resolution displays.  We will also soon have 12 high profile traditional freeway bulletins in Northern California.  We have the best downtown coverage and the only outdoor coverage at the Sacramento International Airport.

You beat out 10 competitors to win the Sacramento Kings Contract.  How did you do it?
