Lind Media operates 1,600 billboards in 27 Ohio and Indiana counties. Lind Media was started in 1991 by John Siegenthaler. The company has grown internally and by the acquisition of  200 displays from Peak Outdoor (2013),  500 displays from Lamar (2016), 54 displays from Lammers (2017) and 25 Ohio displays from US Ads (2017). Previous acquisitions included Northwest Outdoor, Stark Outdoor and certain assets from several other independent and National operators.

In addition to the billboard business Lind has developed the innovative Lind SignSpring system for PE poster, bulletin, vinyl and wallscape installations. The SignSpring system replaces the ratchet & rod vinyl wrap method with engineered spring & hook technology that allows for faster and vinyl changes.  You can read an article on the SignSpring system here.  John Siegenthaler is President of the Lind Companies. Maura Siegenthaler is CEO of Lind Media and Jen Schmidt is Vice President of sales.  Insider interviewed John Siegenthaler.

How’s business?

Business has been good. We continue to track well against competing media, gaining share in local markets. We continue to see clients return to the medium as well as others who have not been with us for a few years also returning.
What are some of your objectives for the coming year?
We are fortunate to have a great team and culture led by exceptional department heads. The teams they lead are dedicated, and very likable, professionals.  Our game plan for the billboard company remains unchanged. Manage growth, watch for opportunities and advocate for the Industry and our communities. We have found that recessions result in increased transaction opportunities and we are always on the lookout for great assets and markets.
Are you using any of the automated sales platforms (e.g. Blip, OneScreen, Adomni, Vistar…)?
We are not using Blip but use the others.  It’s helpful but can be a slippery slope as automated platforms can often be a default crutch to unsold inventory while creating a de facto competitor for our own assets.   If a location is worthy of a digital investment, it should certainly stand on its own as a revenue generating asset for our sales team.
What’s new at Lind SignSpring Group
SignSpring is amazing. It is growing very nicely and more outdoor companies are converting their entire plants to the system. Each is always shocked by the increased efficiency there teams experience and the vastly improved aesthetics. The testimonials, reviews and feedback is glowing. The best endorsement is the very high percentage of repeat customers we serve.  We have recently rolled out BannerFrameAIR for open surface areas like Scoreboard backs, parking garages and open surface areas. We have also introduced BannerFrame Freestand which is a ground supported, all in one sign kit. All sign spring products, including outdoor, come prepped and packaged for direct from the box installation with minimal tools required.
