John Siegenthaler, President, Lind Media

Lind Media operates 1,600 billboards in 27 Ohio and Indiana counties. Lind Media was started in 1991 by John Siegenthaler. The company has grown internally and by the acquisition of  200 displays from Peak Outdoor (2013),  500 displays from Lamar (2016), 54 displays from Lammers (2017) and some Ohio displays from US Ads (2017).   In addition to the billboard business Lind has developed the innovative Lind SignSpring system for replacing the billboard vinyl strap system with a set of springs which allows for faster and easier vinyl changes.  You can read an article on the SignSprings system here.  John Siegenthaler is President.  Maura Siegenthaler is Vice President.  Insider interviewed John Sigenthaler.

How has covid impacted Lind Media?

The Covid crisis has affected Lind Media to the extent that we are used to being on an upward trend in bookings and billing but have essentially been flat to slightly down since the shutdowns. Our sales team, led by Jen Schmidt, has done an exceptional job working with our clients and really stepping up their game. In looking at the big picture and long term, the Covid crisis has  made us tougher, smarter, leaner and meaner. (See attached billboard image.) We’re not out of the woods yet by any means, but I am hopeful I that the economy will bounce back soon.
Lind SignSpring Group, our  fabric Graphic fabric graphic installation system company, has continued to grow exponentially throughout this pandemic.   SignSpring is really starting to catch on within the outdoor industry in addition to the on-premise sign and graphics industries. New product offerings like BannerFrameONE and BannerFrameAIR have really helped our profile for retail and stadium  users respectively. BannerFrameClassic and SignSpring for Outdoor Continue to see steady growth most notably amongst customers that continue to use us over and over again. It says a lot about the quality, durability and versatility of the product.
You’ve helped Ohio’s Renaissance Performing Arts put on socially distanced films, sing-alongs and live concerts.
A friend of mine who chairs the Renaissance performing arts group, visited our plant and noticed our posters, bulletins, wallscapes  and on-premise displays that all operate with the SignSpring system.
Since the theater was no longer able to host events, he came up with the idea that we could install a BannerFrame Classic wallscape with a blank vinyl on the theatre exterior wall so they could live stream programming from inside the theater so people could watch the shows, social distance and even stay in their cars if they like. He also suggested that we donate the system and installation and as a Company with a big heart for our hometown, I couldn’t say no.
We ordered the off white vinyl from Camel City and our crew installed the framing and vinyl in about 3 hours total.  Camel City then ordered a 24 x 38’ Lind BannerFrame system for one of their clients in Wisconsin who stacked  3 shipping containers and installed a 24×38 blank vinyl screen using BannerFrame Classic  directly mounted to the shipping containers.
Here’s a video of the Renaissance Performing Arts installation.
