Lakeland Outdoor operates a 131 face billboard billboard plant in central Florida including two digital billboards.  The firm’s plant is centered on Lakeland, Florida, approximately 45 minutes east of Tampa.  Kathy Oertel is the firm’s general manager.  She also is a member of the Lakeland Chamber of Commerce and serves on the Board of Directors of the Florida Outdoor Advertising Association.

Kathy, how did you enter the out of home business?

I developed an interest in the out of home industry during a time that I was a media planner/buyer.  I was very intrigued with the recurring charge business and the excitement of outdoor and its ability to be a mainstay while traditional media was losing market share.

What’s new with the company during the past year?

2018 has been a very good year for us.  Thankfully we have been spared this year from the massive destructive storms felt by our friends in the Panhandle and beyond.  Our thoughts remain with those still rebuilding.  Our digital footprint is expanding and we are looking to grow into other areas. We have enjoyed the creative options we can offer our customers both new and existing relative to LED vs static.  We are sorting thru the expansive amounts of new products available relative to managing and maximizing our industry.  It is an exciting time for us as we witness massive new growth in all directions within 50 miles of our base.   Central Florida is a great place to be based.

Kathy, who’s digital signs do you own and what’s been your experience?

 I currently own two Formetco panels and my experience has been flawless and so far so good. We are enjoying the fun side of digital.
