Joyce Outdoor Advertising operates billboards, digital signs and wallscapes in New Jersey, Chicago and Pennsylvania. In September 2019 the company developed a wallscape targeting the athletic facilities of Scranton Preparatory School. The company’s owner Kevin Joyce is the only person Insider knows who practiced basketball on a hoop made of billboard scraps. That’s growing up in the business!
Kevin, how did you enter the outdoor business?
I grew up in the outdoor business, and like my father and uncles, I fell in love with it right away.
What have you learned about walls capes?
Each new project is very unique. Everything from access, adjacent neighbors, development risk, and working around nuances on each building…each is a learning experience. I’m lucky enough to know a lot of great people who were willing to share their input.
Who’s digital signs do you use?
We have both Daktronics and Formetco displays. Both manufacture great products, supported by great service. I’ve learned that they are striving to make their systems as user friendly as possible, often saving time. That’s certainly a commodity for small operators.
What’s been your experience with the automated as sales platforms (e.g. Blip, Onescreen.ai, Adomni, Adquick, Vistar)?
I’m yet to put my toe in the water in regards to that. My knowledge of it is very basic, so I would need to dedicate some time to learning more before trying one of the vendors and those services offered.
