Company: Gotcha Covered Media
Markets: Washington

Gotcha Covered Media operates a billboard plant with 22 faces in Western Washington in the following communities:
- Everett
- Fife
- Gig Harbor
- Port Orchard
- Belfair
- Kelso
- Kalama
Most of the company’s faces are 10′ by 20′ due to local zoning codes as well as the fact that the boards are in rural areas. The company was founded in 2003 and is owned by Rick Engley. In 2016 the city of Port Orchard, WA paid Engley $250,000 to settle Engley’s litigation as he sued the city of wrongfully delaying the issuance of permits for 8 billboards. Billboard Insider talked with company founder Rick Engley.
What are some of your objectives for the coming year?
I am often reminded of the quote from Pat O’Donnell of YESCO Outdoor Media years ago in Billboard Insider. “Just because you can build a digital does not necessarily mean you should. “ Developing billboards requires the ability to carefully analyze the projected revenue stream. Size does significantly matter! Why build a 14×48 static or digital sign location that might easily generate more revenue as a 10×22 or 10×30 digital or static sign. It could cost the same or significantly less. At the same time you can drive down some arterials and count 50 unsold ad spaces. Is it saturation or is it a poor sales effort? I think it’s both. Bigger signs will cost significantly more and demand more in what can be an uncertain market. So going into 2024 I think you have to know what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. There are many different variables that should be considered. Great ad spaces and great prices means happy customers and repeat business!
