Insider and Kyle Glover caught up for an interview.

Can you tell us about your background in the outdoor industry and the history of Glover Media?

My father, LaDon Pate, started out in the electrical sign business in Birmingham, Alabama. He moved the family to Prattville, a suburb of Montgomery in 1977. In 1981, he built his first billboard. I have been so fortunate to have learned the business from his experiences. When he passed away, in 2008, I took over the day to day operations of his company. He had 30 static faces along I-65 in Central Alabama. In 2013, my wife and I started Glover Media Group. We built the first structure in Prattville, Alabama. It was a 10’6 x 36 digital unit/ static on back side at the main intersection in town. We have been very blessed as that it is still, to this day, our strongest location.

Tell us about the rest of your billboard inventory?

Since that first digital structure, we have added three more digital screens and two static faces in the Prattville market. In 2016, we built a digital unit in Wetumpka, Alabama a great town about 15 miles to the East of Prattville. As we speak, we are developing a back to back digital unit in Auburn, Alabama at a very prominent intersection. We have also obtained four permits a little south of Prattville. We currently own four digital faces and manage twenty eight static faces all on I-65 in Central Alabama.  We use Formetco exclusively as our digital provider. We have been so impressed with the quality and their customer service.

Can you share with us about the Prattville market?

Prattville is a rapidly growing city about 8 miles north of Montgomery, Alabama. We have a great mix of military and civilian residents. In the past 15-20 years, we have seen our population boom, as well as, our commercial and retail options. The population of Prattville will be somewhere around 45,000 in the next census. That doesn’t really tell the whole story, though. Prattville serves as the retail shopping/ entertainment hub for all of Autauga, Chilton, Dallas, and Eastern Elmore Counties. So the effective population is much larger. We also have I-65 running through the edge of town which creates a lot of transient tax dollars for our retailers and merchants.

Kyle, what’s your market philosophy?

We have built our business serving the local merchants. We really strive to bring new customers to the outdoor advertising industry. We want to see our local merchants be able to compete with Lowe’s, Home Depot, and all of the other Big Box retailers in town.
