Arrington Outdoor Advertising was founded in the late 90’s by David Arrington and Mike Wolverton. The partners believed with David’s oil & gas experience and Mike’s real estate and marketing experience that owning and operating billboards just made sense.  Since that time Arrington Outdoor has built an impressive business that extends to over 30 counties in North Texas with most being within a two hour drive of the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex. Currently Arrington Outdoor’s Texas billboard inventory goes east as far as Tyler, south to Waco, west to Midland and north to the Red River. The company are members of OAAA, IBO and Geopath.

Mike Wolverton

Insider had a chance to talk with Mike Wolverton for an update on Arrington Outdoor.

Mike, you have been part of Arrington Outdoor for almost thirty years. How did you get started in the business?

My early successful billboards were part of small commercial real estate projects where I saw the value of additional revenue. I quickly realized the billboard business on its own made the most sense, especially if I wanted it to grow so I went all in. I would also no longer have to deal with phone calls from angry tenants about air conditioning issues, roof leaks and stopped up toilets.

How many structures does Arrington currently own? How many digital faces do you own?

We have close to 750 traditional billboard faces and about a dozen digital faces with about 90% of these being in the Dallas-Fort Worth DMA.

You have structures in 39 counties in Texas.  What’s you philosophy on offices in the six DMA’s you serve?

We serve and service all of our inventory and customers out of our Lake Dallas business office and recently completed Aledo warehouse.

I understand that Texas is doing quite a bit of Freeway work.  Has the construction had any impact for you and having to relocate or remove signs?

Yes this is our worst enemy with no signs of it slowing down. I guess there is a trade off since the D/FW and surrounding area population growth continues to boom.

Still room for growth in your organization?

There is certainly room for growth and we are always trying to grow personally and professionally in our organization, which will hopefully prepare us well for future opportunities that may come our way.
