Apple Outdoor operates an out of home plant with 500 faces in Pennsylvania and Maryland.  The company was founded in 1999 and is owned by the Stewart Companies group, which has investments in building products, construction, real estate, auto dealerships and out of home advertising.  Nate Sterner is the company’s President.

Nate, how did you enter the out of home business?

I started working for Adams Outdoor – Lehigh Valley after graduating from Syracuse University in 1989.

Who’s digital signs do you use and what have you learned?

Up to this point, we have used Daktronics, exclusively, and they have been a very good business partner to us.  We have had the good fortune of working with some very talented and helpful people on their team. It’s a common theme in the outdoor industry that these are high ROI units, but for the customer, who is our most important partner, these displays can be current, timely, flexible and provide alternative value adding another tool in their “advertising toolbox” for their varying marketing needs.

Do you use any of the automated sales platforms to help sell space (e.g. Blip, Vistar, Adquick, Hivestack)?

No, we have not – we have been very fortunate to have relatively higher-than-average industry occupancy rates and a sales team of rockstars!  What’s been your experience?

What are some of your goals for Apple for 2021?

We are always 1) pursuing growth opportunities (organically, via acquisition and/or digital conversions), 2) Looking to maintain what we have, and 3) Providing our customers and partners with the best products, programs and customer service experience possible.
