Jeremie Watkins on Clark County’s Mobile Billboard Rules

Kre8 Media Mobile Billboard in Las Vegas

Clark County Nevada Commissioners unanimously approved mobile billboard rules  due to safety and congestion concerns.

Here’s a link to the new mobile billboard law.  The rules go into effect January 1.   The rules require mobile billboard operators to register with the county, pay an annual fee of $500 per vehicle and keep $1 million in insurance.  The rules ban:

  • Trailer drawn billboards.
  • Stops in residential areas.
  • Moving images.
  • Operating the vehicle at slow speed.
  • Vehicles in excess of 32 feet long by 14 feet high by 8.5 feet wide.
  • Operating in winds over 35 miles an hour.

Jeremie, tell us about Kre8 Media

We have approximately 200 employees including 60 mobile billboards.  The static mobile billboard spaces are 10′ by 20′.  The digital mobile billboard screens are 8′ by 16′  We also do marquee advertising and experiential advertising and the touchdown towers.

What do you think of the new rules.

I’ve been in the business since 2005.  This has been talked about for a long time. This law was focused on safety.  I have to commend the Clark county leadership from the business license team to the commissioners to Commissioner Gibson for seeing this through. It’s a positive thing for the community and a step in the right direction for our industry.

Talk about the 35 mile an hour wind restriction.

This is an issue.  I’m aware of 4 mobile billboard trucks that have tipped over due to winds.  None have been ours  Thankfully no one has been hurt.  We ground our fleet when winds are 35 miles an hour and above.  That’s maybe 10-15 days a year.

What about the limit on parking in a residential area?

The residential area was a rule already in place  Some of the issues we’ve had is that you’ve had mobile billboards park overnight for a good amount of time.   Sometimes you’ve got some ads which are inappropriate and parked near a school or a church.
