Callaham Earns 5 National Design Awards

Chattanooga, TN –Greg Callaham Graphic Design has earned five American Graphic Design Awards. Graphic Design USA, a national trade publication, conferred five 2019 awards to Callaham’s design work for Fluhman Outdoor Media, Visual Outdoor Advertising, PDI Works, and Hollywog.

“I really appreciate the opportunity the AGDA offers to shine a national spotlight on clients such as these who see the value in memorable advertising messages,” said Callaham. “I am honored to receive these awards. It’s encouraging to know the quality of my work is recognized the national level.”

Callaham garnered two awards for his work on behalf of Fluhman Outdoor Media. One award is for the J&S Tractors billboard campaign featuring Kioti tractors. Callaham utilized imagery from Kioti corporate headquarters and applied his own take on the relationship between a tractor owner and their tractor. “Anyone who purchases a new tractor is going to be looking for any excuse to crank it up and use it. Both headlines play off that feeling, kind of like a kid with a new toy,” he said. The second award-winning design is for Malcolm Hinkle Refrigeration Company. The billboard features stock photography of child and adult hands holding a pink ribbon. “The advertiser wanted a special message for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and suggested this Bible verse. During my image search this one stopped me in my tracks. I knew it would do the same for the viewing public,” Callaham recalled. The ads displayed on printed vinyl in Texas.

The ad for Visual Outdoor Advertising features Nelson Tractor Company as the advertiser and promotes their John Deere riding mowers. “John Deere products are known for their longevity and owner loyalty,” Callaham said. “I know people who own them, and they love them more and more every year. I’ll go for a bad pun in a heartbeat, so my brain naturally spit out this headline and the advertiser loved it.”

For PDI Works, a Cleveland, TN, engineering consulting firm focused on product development for manufacturing, Callaham created an 8-inch square brochure and accompanying sales sheets. “The cover photo is the inspiration for the look of the whole project,” Callaham said. “The bright blue nearly crackles with a feeling of technical innovation that is perfect for this client. By combining their technical drawing with actual product photography, we show the scope of their expertise from concept to production. The brochure covers their corporate profile and the sales sheets are dedicated to individual products, seamlessly fitting into the brochure like additional pages.”

Hollywog is a Chattanooga, Tennessee, medical device manufacturer with a strong presence in the marketplace. They asked Callaham to design a brochure for their WiTouch Pro back pain relief device to distribute at a tradeshow dedicated to safety in the workplace. “The goal was to start a conversation and generate interest among employers to provide or subsidize the purchase of the WiTouch Pro to offset employee back pain.” The resulting brochure features the company’s bright green logo color and simple text to convey important information on how the product might reduce pain-related lost productivity.
