BillboardPlanet and an Introduction to Quantum

Mike Donaldson, BillboardPlanet

You may have noticed that we have a new advertiser, BillboardPlanet.  Insider had a chance to talk with Mike Donaldson, Director of Business Development, about what BillboardPlanet has been up to and their Quantum operating platform.

Mike, long time no see. Tell us what has BillboardPlanet has been up to?

The last few years at BillboardPlanet have been amazing.  We spent a lot of time overseas and grew our international presence with the addition of 12 new countries and tens of thousands of client faces.

I understand that some good things have developed out of those relationships?

For those who know the original BillboardPlanet operating platform, we traditionally catered to smaller static large format billboard companies.  With the needs of our customers rapidly changing, we realized a shift was necessary beyond a billboard operating platform to a fully engaged platform for the OOH business.  As a result, we created our Quantum system.

You have made a significant investment in Quantum?

With over 20 years of experience, and help from many of our clients, we realized technology is moving too fast to simply write over old code. Instead of adding new features onto what was honestly an older and arguably outdated  platform, we made the choice to start again from scratch, investing a significant amount of time and money to build a foundation capable of adapting to the future needs of the industry.  Our efforts took us beyond a basic billboard operating software to a fully engaged platform built not only for today’s business needs but adaptable to those to come.

So, what does that look like?

It is a little hard to summarize, but, for example, we can auto-chart anything from street furniture to large format, have integrated census data, a full-fledged digital suite, beautiful new mapping features and the most advanced inventory, land lease and permit module available in the industry. It would be easier to just show it to you.

Any Sized?

Our newest client has 20 digital billboards, while our largest is in 14 countries with about 60,000 faces.  We have made it adaptable and scalable, so it is affordable to any company.

How do you handle the variety of customers?

As we built Quantum, we have learned to integrate with other companies that have outstanding systems.  As an example, we have programmers that could write an accounting package, but SAP and Quickbooks are experts in the field, so the system is designed to connect in with them. We also can connect into Salesforce, Printers, Digital signs as well as programmatic buyers..

What if I’m already using a platform that I have invested the time to setup and install. How difficult would it be to transfer over to the Quantum system?

My official answer is super easy.

That’s a great answer, why is it super easy?

Conceptually it is easier to transition a company on an existing platform in terms of moving information to the Quantum system since they already have their data well organized.

For companies looking to transition, let’s say from an Excel based platform, change management can be tough.  We try to make it as easy as possible to move into Quantum. You only need to fill out five Excel spreadsheets to get started.

If I am interested, who do I need to talk to and what’s the process?

Send us an email to info@billboardplanet.com and we will get back to you quickly.  We normally start with a conversation to see what you are looking for in a software package to make sure we are the right fit.  We then begin with a brief 10,000 ft conversation so you can get a better idea of what Quantum has to offer.  If it is something that seems of interest we move on to general demos and quotes.
