Barry Cramer Jr. RIP

Barry Cramer, Jr. 1965-2022

Barry Cramer Jr. died on March 8, 2022 at the too young age of 56 years following a five year battle with cancer.  You can read Barry Cramer’s obituary here.

Barry started his career in radio after graduating from Middle Tennessee state in 1990.  Barry owned and operated multiple out of home businesses.  He partnered with Jim McIntyre and Jerry Bowen to buy Southern Billboards in 2009.  Barry was the company’s GM and COO.  Southern had 170 faces in small markets in the Southeast.

IBOUSA General Manager Cris Cowlbeck tells Billboard Insider, “Barry was one of the nicest humans I’ve known – witty, smart and dedicated to OOH.  He was also a very good fly fisherman, which says a lot about his patience and attention to detail.  I’ll miss him on the river.”

Charlie McIntyre of Bullfrog Outdoor says, “I had the pleasure of meeting Barry eight years ago in Nashville at his first IBO meeting and always enjoyed spending time with him. He had a unique understanding of the billboard business from both  the operational and sales sides. He will be missed. May he rest in peace.”

Marty Williamson of Williamson and Associates says this, “I had the great pleasure of getting to know Barry when I owned and operated billboards in Nashville. Barry’s company handled all of our installation and maintenance. You would have to look hard to find a nicer guy in our industry. Barry was a pleasure to work with – he was down to earth, hardworking and always warm and friendly.  I looked forward to dropping off vinyls at his shop and then just spending time sitting in his office and chatting about the billboard business, life, and fishing. I so regret never getting the chance to go trout fishing with Barry – I know that brought him, his partners and friends a lot of joy.  Barry fought the good fight – talk about a life well lived… Barry Cramer knocked it out of the park! ”

Barry was an active member in the Independent Billboard Operators association and he loved to fly fish.   Here’s a picture of Barry (second row sitting with white shirt and orange hat) taken at an IBOUSA fishing outing to Delaney Lake

  1. Rip, bro

  2. I’m saddened to hear the news of Barry’s passing. Mark Sword introduced me to Barry at least 25 years ago while working for Outdoor Systems in Indianapolis. It was always worth carving out time for a market ride, lunch or dinner when in Nashville or he in Indpls. Barry was a person I will forever remember for being a wealth of knowledge. I will miss his infectious laugh. Our industry has lost a great friend.
    RIP my friend.

  3. A Great person! I am very grateful that I got to meet him. RIP Barry!
