Bager and Freitas Address Independent Operators

OAAA President and CEO Anna Bager and VP Marketing Stephen Freitas made a short Zoom presentation to Independent Billboard Operator USA members at a Zoom call which was staged after the IBO Spring convention was cancelled.  Here’s a summary of what they said.

OAAA President and CEO Anna Bager:

The last 2-3 months have been incredibly hard for all of us.  Personally, for our businesses and for the country as a whole…this has been a tough time.  Saying that…I’m so incredibly proud and happy that I joined the OAAA…And some reasons to be positive that I want to highlight here today.

First of all traffic is up 28% over mid-April,  in some regions of the country even more.  So Americans are really excited to be going out of home and they are doing so and we’re seeing upticks every week…

…The ad is the content.  I think that’s more important now than ever.  When there’s so much bad news on television and it’s so hard to get the message out, our platform is going to be a really interesting and attractive place for brands to be…We hear that from advertisers and we hear that from agencies.

We’re also a medium that’s going to help America come back…2/3rds of out of home is local…our medium can help local businesses tell people that they’re open again and that they’re back for business.   We’re really going to help rebuild the country…

I am bullish and hopeful for the future.  We hear good things from the market.  We hear good things from consumers…we are starting to see numbers that are really proving our case.

OAAA Chief Marketing Officer Stephen Freitas

I’m excited about a few things.  First I’m excited about how our industry came together in this crisis.  The PSA work that our industry has provided to the marketplace has been outstanding…We’ve shared with you many PSA programs…Americans Stay Safe, Stay home, we produced several campaigns for thanks to heros – the health workers and law enforcement people.  They were all terrific…I’m also really excited about something else happening…the 78th annual OBIE awards…It’s the oldest creative design award competition in the ad business.  This year there are some terrific local campaigns that have won big awards…

Insider’s take:  An encouraging and positive message from the OAAA.  It’s also great to see cooperation between the OAAA and the IBOUSA.  Your out of home company needs to be a part of both organizations.
