Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal report that an Uber temporarily suspended its autonomous car program after an Uber autonomous car in Tempe got in an accident Friday. The autonomous car appears to have not been at fault and Uber has resumed operations.
Insider’s take: Autonomous cars will grow in fits and starts. There will be a pause after every accident to figure out the problem even if autonomous cars are safe. Insider wonders if autonomous cars will prompt human drivers to go rogue. If you know an autonomous care is programmed to stop to avoid a collision will you be a more aggressive driver.
