Hartford Business Journal has written an article titled “Electronic billboards making a serious run at CT eyeballs.”   Two thing in the article caught Insider’s eye.

  • The former Mayor of New Britain Tim Stewart was quoted as saying that New Britain supported a plan to convert static boards to digital boards because they “don’t generate trash and don’t put kids in schools.”  This is a great point to make to your local communities.  Digital signs generate sales and use tax or property taxes without placing a demand on local services.
  • Connecticut billboard companies are making creative use of digital signs.  A radio station used an Independent Outdoor Digital board to identify the song title and artists it was playing in real time.  The upcoming Traveller’s Golf Championship will use digital signs on I-84, I-91 and I-95 to provide real time leader-boards standings, while urging motorists to visit the course or watch on TV.
