Matt O’Conner the founder of AdQuick sent Insider these thoughts on driverless cars and billboards. AdQuick has developed an online marketplace for buying and selling out of home advertising.
Pros for the Billboard Industry:
- Driver attention is no longer a safety concern, which may open opportunities for sign development and digital conversion.
- Driving will be the preferred method of travel versus short haul flights and trains. More eyes on highways/roads.
- Governments will lose out on big revenue sources of speeding and parking tickets ( more than $26.2 billion in revenue nationally) and could look to boost revenues through outdoor advertising
Cons for the Billboard Industry:
- In car entertainment will quickly become more absorbing and advanced, decreasing the viewability of boards
