Lamar Advertising is proposing a digital billboard in Aurora Colorado, a city which doesn’t allow new billboards. Lamar real estate manager Steve Cecil and Territory Manager Brent Window made an info-only presentation at February 8, 2023 Aurora City Council planning and economic development committee meeting about leasing city land for a monument style digital billboard.
Newsbreak.com reports that the city could generate $300,000-450,000 in rent from the sign and that at least one council member is interested in a pilot program while another council member is interested in the rent revenue the sign can generate for the city. The Aurora city council will discuss digital billboards at a March 6 study session.
Billboard Insider’s take: Another city chooses to study the feasibility of generating revenue for city services by becoming a digital billboard landlord. In addition to revenues, local businesses get a chance to tell their story and the sign will be available for public service announcements, storm warnings (colorado gets 47 tornados a year) and amber alerts.
