The San Diego Union-Tribune reports opposition to several proposed digital billboards in Oceanside, California. Local residents have circulated a petition asking the City Council to turn down the signs. The current sign ordinance allows as many as four digital boards on city-owned property. The council is interested in the revenue stream that would be available to the city. An earlier proposal had been turned down by the city council, but it looks like a revision will be approved as it includes the removal of two static boards for each digital installed.
Insider thinks that along with the revenue stream, the city council should point out the benefits to the town of providing public messaging and amber alert information.
