Will the Supreme Court take up Austin’s sign code appeal?

Lots of speculation as to whether the US Supreme Court will take up an appeals court decision that the city of Austin’s ban on off-premise digital billboards violates the First Amendment.  The case is Reagan and Lamar versus City of Austin.   Austin has approved a legal services agreement with a lawyer to take the case to the Supreme Court.  The deadline to file the petition is January 21, 2020.

Insider’s take:  The Supreme Court only accepts 1-2% of the cases which are submitted to it to review.  Insider talked to an out of home attorney who said this: “If I was a betting man, I would place my money on the Supremes not granting the petition by Austin since they recently denied the petition by Tennessee in the Thomas case and I would think the legal issues are identical.”
