Waterloo Rejects Digital Billboard

waterlooThe Courier reports that a Lamar request for a 10.5 by 36 foot digital billboard in Waterloo Iowa failed last Monday.  The Waterloo City Council voted 5-2 in favor of the board.  A 6-1 majority was needed to override a recommendation for denial of permit by the Waterloo Planning and Zoning Commission.

The billboard would have been located along San Marnan Drive next to the Crossroads Mall.  The Crossroads Mall said that the billboard would block the view of the mall and a local Mexican restaurant objected that the billboard would throw light into its windows.

Insider’s take:  The city may be facing a lawsuit if Lamar’s allegations that the billboard meets all regulations and setback requirements are true.
