The Mt Airy News reports The Surry County Board of Commissioners has reached a compromise in a debate regarding billboards in the county. The compromise requires a conditional use permit for construction of a billboard in industrial manufacturing, highway business and community business zones. A more restrictive proposal which would have limited billboards just to industrial manufacturing zones was rejected.
The proposal will require anyone seeking a billboard to get approval from the County’s planning board on the basis that the billboard is consistent with the county’s land-use plan.
Gary York of Action Outdoor Advertising was active in the proceedings.
