The Current Argus reports that the Carlsbad, New Mexico city council has placed a 60 day moratorium on billboard permits and is reviewing the city’s sign ordinance. The towns ordinance limits sign size, height, set back and placement but does not limit size.
Nearby Artesia, New Mexico has proposed a sign ordinance which requires:
- A 1,500 setback between billboards on the same side of the street.
- A 200′ setback from parks or homes
- A 50′ distance from a monument
- A 672 square foot limit on sign size which equates to a 14′ by 48′ billboard.
