Minneapolis weighs expanded billboard zone.

The star-tribune reports that Minneapolis is considering a zoning code change to expand the area where off premise signs can be erected to give advertisers more flexibility as Minneapolis prepares to host the super bowl in February.  Billboards are currently allowed on portions of Hennepin Avenue, Target Center and US Bank Stadium.  The proposal would

  • permit billboards on the south side of 6th St S and along the west side of Park Avenue near the US Bank stadium
  • permit painted wall signs along both sides of Hennepin Avenue from 8th St to Washington Avenue and along the south side of Washington Avenue

The proposal will be discussed at meetings on Jan 2 and Jan 8.
