Avoid Heart-Stopping Ladder Moments with Formetco’s Ladder Stabilizer Bracket

Ladder-related incidents continue to be one of the leading causes of injuries in the out-of-home industry—especially during transitions between extension ladders and fixed access points.  To address this risk, Formetco developed the Ladder Stabilizer Bracket, a simple yet effective device designed to create a safer, more consistent climbing experience. Billboard Insider spoke with Formetco Product Manager Chris Adams to learn more.

Why did Formetco develop the Ladder Stabilizer Bracket?

Formetco developed this product after working closely with safety professionals across the industry who emphasized the risks associated with ladder transitions. A significant number of injuries and fatalities occur when climbers move from an extension ladder to a catwalk or fixed ladder. In many cases, the issue isn’t the climb itself—it’s instability at the transition point. The Ladder Stabilizer Bracket was designed to eliminate that uncertainty by creating a fixed, reliable access point on every structure.

How does the Ladder Stabilizer Bracket work?

The device secures the extension ladder by locking in the top or fourth rung, preventing the ladder from slipping or tipping during use. By doing so, it:

  • Establishes a consistent placement location for ladders
  • Maintains the proper 75-degree climbing angle
  • Eliminates guesswork for crews in the field
  • Provides stability for both the first climber and those who follow

The result is a safer, more controlled transition onto catwalks or fixed ladders.

Where should the device be installed?

The Ladder Stabilizer Bracket is recommended to be installed near horizontal or vertical lifeline systems. This placement allows climbers to:

  • Safely access the structure
  • Quickly transition into fall protection systems
  • Reduce exposure to risk during critical movement points

It can be mounted on:

  • Catwalk kick rails
  • Flat vertical surfaces
  • Fixed ladders

What makes this device effective in the field?

The effectiveness comes down to simplicity and durability. Key features include:

  • Universal design compatible with most extension ladders
  • Constructed from 10-gauge galvanized steel
  • Corrosion-resistant for long-term outdoor performance
  • Designed for repeated, everyday use in demanding environments

This combination ensures the device performs reliably across a wide range of structures and weather conditions.

What are the primary benefits for operators and crews?

The Ladder Stabilizer Bracket delivers both safety and operational benefits:

  • Reduces the risk of slips, falls, and serious injuries
  • Provides climbers with greater confidence during ascent and descent
  • Standardizes ladder placement across multiple structures
  • Improves overall job site efficiency by removing uncertainty

It’s a small addition that can have a significant impact on daily operations.

How easy is it to install and retrofit?

One of the biggest advantages of the device is how quickly it can be deployed.

  • Cost: Approximately $100 to $120 per unit
  • Install Time: Less than 30 minutes
  • Installation Methods:
    • Drill and bolt directly to kickrails
    • Attach to fixed ladders using U-bolts on the bottom rung

Each unit comes with a complete installation kit, making it easy to standardize safety improvements across an entire inventory of structures.

What’s the takeaway for billboard operators?

Ladder safety is often overlooked until an incident occurs—but proactive solutions like the Ladder Stabilizer Bracket can significantly reduce risk. By creating a stable, repeatable access point, this device helps crews work safer, faster, and with greater confidence every time they climb.

  1. we call them ladder stops here and they’re on every panel. theyre not heavy duty as this but they prevent ladder slips on panels. I wouldn’t post a panel without them as they are essential for us.
