OUTFRONT and Artsy Promote Black Artists

New York, NY, February 17, 2021 —Artsy, the largest online marketplace for discovering, buying and selling fine art by leading artists, and OUTFRONT Media, one of the largest out-of-home media companies in North America, is delighted to announce a new national activation, ‘Portrayals of Black Joy by Today’s Emerging Artists’.

Launched on February 8th , this public national series to celebrate Black History Month features emerging Black artists whose works offer diverse interpretations of “Black Joy”.  These artworks celebrating joyful moments in Black culture will be displayed across New York City’s MTA transit system, and will also run across transit systems nationwide in cities including Boston, San Francisco, Atlanta, Santa Clara, and Washington, D.C., through OUTFRONT Media’s content and publishing platform, MOMENTS by OUTFRONT. Artsy is the official MOMENTS in Culture partner.

This MOMENTS in Culture episode will spotlight the works of four leading Black emerging artists—Derrick Adams, Dominic Chambers, Sola Olulode, and Kay Hickman—all of whose works portray different aspects of joy. For instance, Derrick Adams’s Floater 25 and Dominic Chambers’s On Sunsets & Being convey a joy of leisure and relaxation, while Sola Olulode’s Laying in the Grass and Kay Hickman’s Hold Fast demonstrate the joy that comes from community and togetherness.

Commenting on its Black History Month activation with OUTFRONT Media, Everette Taylor, Artsy’s Chief Marketing Officer, said: “Artsy is proud to be able to not only spotlight incredibly talented black artists, but more importantly portray images of black joy. Historically Black Americans have been portrayed in the media through images of ignorant stereotypes or through images of protest and hardship. I’m glad that we are able to showcase joyous images of Black culture devoid of trauma and oppression through our nationwide activation.”

Jason Kuperman, Chief Product Experience Officer at OUTFRONT Media, said: “The ‘MOMENTS in Culture’ channel is the perfect place to showcase the wonderful work Artsy has curated for the public transit audience during Black History Month. Meaningful content such as this helps to inform and entertain commuters and aligns with OUTFRONT’s purpose of helping people, places, and business grow stronger.”
