3 of a Kind: For Your Consideration

In recent times the streets and skies of La La Land are becoming increasingly filled with ‘For your consideration’ outdoor ad campaigns for television shows, recording artists and motion pictures, especially at this time of year with industry awards shows like the Golden Globes, the Screen Actors Guild Awards, the Critics’ Choice Awards, The Grammys and the Oscars.
But interestingly entertainment studios and record labels are not the only advertisers asking ‘For your consideration’ in the city skyline, as a whole host of other products, industries and services have emulated this technique to help their billboards stand out amongst the crowded skies of L.A. Here are three diverse examples of what Daily Billboard means.
First up is a billboard for Ritual vitamins, in this case tailoring the FYC approach for their prenatal offering. This vibrant ad creative asking for your consideration if you’re considering having a baby was snapped along Hollywood’s Vine Street in February 2019, just in the midst of the winter awards season and at the start of the entry period for television industry’s Emmy awards, so very timely for those in the entertainment business.
The next example is a faux ‘For your consideration’ billboard for L.A. Galaxy’s new soccer player, Zlatan Ibrahimović, certainly a novel way to announce the superstar striker’s addition to the team along Melrose Avenue at the end of March 2018.
The third example also designed to look like a movie campaigning for an award is a billboard for Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center. This ‘Best Supporting Role’ ad creative was part of larger campaign masquerading as FYC billboards to stand out and make health more interesting and was spied above Studio City’s Ventura Boulevard in February 2019. This campaign has returned to the city skyline for 2020’s awards season with a similar design and copy like ‘Best New Urgent Care’ and ‘Best New ER’.
As you can see this topical gimmick works across other categories like health, wellbeing and sports, turning passersby heads and making them think twice because these types of businesses, brands and services don’t usually advertise in this manner.
