Stuart Stein

Insider caught up with Stuart Stein, the President of Stein Sign Display. Stuart has owned the business since February 2020, which was his father’s 40th year with the business and also his official retirement date. Stein Sign Display is now a 3rd generation family business.

Looks like you have had some growth since we last talked?  What are your current counts for static and digital faces?

We’re now up to 265 static faces and 10 digital boards spanning across eastern South Dakota.

Talk a little about your philosophy for growth in the business.

I love the billboard side of our business!  Selling billboards was one of my first real jobs for the family business.  Because I’m so passionate about it, we’re actively trying to find new sites to develop and certainly willing to look at purchasing sites within our region.  In the last 5 years, we’ve completed 10 purchases and acquisitions of billboards.  For reference, when I started in 2014, our company had 115 billboards and 1 digital.

Also, you have had stability in your management group. Could you speak to the importance of maintaining a core group in a smaller business?

We have a core team of 3 people running our billboard portfolio. Morgan Johnson (Director of Advertising & Marketing), Jason Crow (General Manager), and Sig Sivertson (Static Sales) are responsible for driving such tremendous growth. They work so well together as #OneTeam, which is a company core value.

Now with the election season winding down, what are you thinking about goals for the business in 2025?

“If you’re not moving forward, you are moving backward.” Always looking to improve and grow!
