Summer Air Travel Will Hit Record Levels

Summer air travel will hit a new record, buoyed by economic growth and airline competition.

US airlines are adding 116,000 seats per day to meet summer demand, says industry trade group Airlines for America.

Here are highlights of air-travel projections released May 23:

  • Air travel will increase 3.7 percent between June 1 and August 31 (compared to the same period last year)
  • On average, 2.68 million passengers per day will travel on US airlines
  • Nearly all major US airports have handled more seats during the last five years, with major increases at Dallas Love Field, Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport, and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Insider’s take:  All good for airport advertising.  More travellers = more impressions = more revenue.
