    Brite Media Group  is a specialty marketing company whose products include coffee ad sleeves, cash jackets and valet tickets.  This month Brite Media entered the transit advertising business with the purchase of the Indianapolis-based Clean Zone Marketing.  Clean Zone has advertising contracts with transit agencies covering 80 counties and 6 million people in Indiana, Ohio and Illinois.  Brite Media is backed by Beekman Group, a private equity firm headquartered in New York.  Brite Media  Insider talked with Brite Media’s CEO Joe Puglise.

    Joe, tell us about your background.

    I spent 22 years with Clear Channel/iHeartMedia on the broadcast side, the last seven here in New York City as President.  It’s a great company with terrific people, and I still consider them as family.  I saw an opportunity to build something special in the media space with partners at the Beekman group, a few of whom I’ve known for over 25 years, and the timing was right in both my personal and professional life to pursue it.

    Why transit advertising?

    While leveraging the incredible scale and reach of Brite’s hand-to-hand marketing products (over 25mil per month!) and growing the company organically has always been an important part of our growth strategy, growth through acquisition was always the other part of the equation.  Transit is such a respected medium and a staple of so many marketing plans, it seemed a natural place for us to focus.  Additionally, the balance of Local-to-National business in transit is almost inverse to our other products, providing a smart complimentary fit and a natural hedge to our revenue mix.

    What made the Clean Zone acquisition appealing?

    Matt Murray has built one heck of a company so far.  Show me any company in the traditional media space that’s growing revenue and EBITDA year after year after year in high double digit fashion, and I can assure you we’re going to be interested in speaking with them.

    How would you like to grow the business?

    Clean Zone Marketing, at this stage of its life cycle, is a perfect partner for Brite Media and the resources we can provide:  Operations, finance, sales, and of course funding.  This allows us to partner with Matt so that he and his team are freed up to grow even faster, and focus on the things that they do well.  You need both infrastructure and expertise to scale any business, and Brite provides that in spades.
