Kiosk Hack Highlights Importance of Security

Masheable and Digital Signage Today  have written about a porn video which showed for three minutes at rush hour on a digital kiosk touchscreen in Washington DC’s Union Station on Monday May 15.  The kiosk’s software was not secure or password protected.  The hacker used the kiosk’s touch screen to access and display a porn website.

Insider’s take: “Hacking digital billboards” remains one of the most popular searches on Billboard Insider’s website.  You need to follow strict security procedures to avoid becoming a hacking victim.  Lock the access to your digital signs.  Use unique and strong user names and passwords.  Consider an intruder identification system.  Have a crisis plan for shutting off your digital billboard if it gets hacked.   For more information read Bill Ripp on How to Prevent Hacking of Digital Billboards.
