Regulatory Roundup – October 6

Wisconsin State Journal reports that Adams Outdoor Advertising is appealing a decision by Madison officials to deny a request to modify 22 billboards.  The City’s Urban Design Commission will review the appeals on Oct 11.  Adams seeks to increase the billboard heights or install digital displays.  Adams has sued Madison, claiming that the city’s ordinance unconstitutionally prevents Adams from replacing or refurbishing billboards.

A proposed rule change to permit taller billboards in Texas was the subject of articles in the Houston Press on September 29..  Scenic Texas is attempting to rally people against the height increase.  Scenic Texas sent this out a few weeks ago.

Tacoma Weekly reports a cannabis retailer had to revamp the layout of a billboard advertisement due to Washington State’s new marijuana advertising rules which say that a billboard cannot be “designed in any manner which would be especially appealing to children or persons under the age of twenty-one.”  You can read the Washington marijuana advertising statute at this link. Marijuana shops which violate the statute face big fines or license revocation.  Doesn’t look like an out of home company which chooses to run an ad is at risk.  Insider expects  more states to adopt stringent advertising rules if they permit marijuana sales.
