Regulatory Roundup January 26, 2018

Three regulatory issues to review this week.

CBS Pittsburgh reports Lamar and the Pittsburg Mayor have failed to reach a compromise on the Mount Washington sign and both sides have presented their arguments in court.  Lamar contents that the sign is in accordance with city law.  The city contends the billboard exceeds allowable limits.  Allegheny County Judge Joseph James of the Fifth Judicial District of Pennsylvania will issue a ruling.   Insider will publish the opinion when it is issued.

Los Angeles Times reports that The Los Angeles City Council voted 11 to 2 to instruct city lawyers to negotiate an amended agreement with JCDecaux to extend a 20 year bus shelter and restroom contract for an additional 10 years.  The contract was to have provided 1,000 new bus shelters and 150 automated toilets.  Only 700 shelters and 15 automated toilets have been installed to date due to delays by the city in approving new shelter and toilet locations.  You can find the details on the contract here.  Insider can’t resist pointing out that bureaucratic foot dragging by the city has apparently cost $100 million in lost city revenues under the contract.  Ouch.

The Journal reports that the Rolling Meadows, IL city council has agreed 5-1 to permit Lamar to install of a digital billboard at 3975 Algonquin Road, near Route 53.  Lamar has another billboard in the city near Route 53 and Euclid.  Lamar must submit plant to the Rolling Meadows Plan Commission before the city gives final approval.  You can read Lamar’s presentation to the city in the Agenda for the Jan 16 meeting.  Insider’s take: Great presentation.  Nice looking sign. Nice looking location.  Good luck to Chris Lupo and the folks at Lamar.
