Regulatory Roundup August 30, 2018

Two interesting regulatory stories in Detroit.

Business Insider reports that SHoP is moving ahead with plans for an 800 foot tall tower with 1 million square feet of retail, office and residential space at the former site of the J.L. Hudson Company Department store on Farmer Street and Gatiot Avenue.  The project broke ground in December 2017  This rendering of the project caught Insider’s eye.  Looks like it incorporates a large digital billboard.

Detroit’s sign code forbids most wall advertisements and the city has been slowly forcing owners of illegal signs to take them down.  ClickonDetroit reports that the US Attorney’s office is investigating whether there has been any wrongdoing by Detroit City Council members relating to the signs.
