Out of Home Sales Commissions

Insider has received a couple requests for information on out of home sales commissions.  Here’s what he knows.

  • Insider sees commissions of 10-20% of collections at independent out of home companies.  Commissions are paid on collections, not booked revenues in order to minimize bad debts.
  • Insider hears that commissions are much smaller (3-6% of collections) at Lamar, Clear Channel Outdoor and Outfront.  Commissions on contract renewals can be as low as 1.5%.
  • Sales commissions were 9% of Link Media Outdoor’s net billboard revenues for 2018 and 6% of net billboard revenues in 2017.

Insider’s take:  You can make a higher commission if you work for an independent out of home company.  The tradeoff is that benefits may be not so good and your revenue base and sales support may be less.  What sort of commissions plan best motivates out of home sales execs?  Let insider know using the form below.
