Railroad Outdoor, LLC develops, operates and manages static and digital billboards throughout Georgia.  Formed in 2010 by two Atlanta commercial real estate brokers, Mike Fitzgerald and Kelly Shaw, the company has a strong track record of growth with long term leases in great locations.  Insider talked with Mike Fitzgerald.

Mike, what’s new since we talked last in November 2017?

Mike Fitzgerald, Co-founder, Railroad Outdoor

We continue to develop new sites across Georgia with a focus on Poster Size or larger sites that provide a great value to our advertisers.  By selecting sites with low construction and land costs, we can pass along our savings yielding a low customer turnover rate.  Advertisers remain on our boards for years.  A small sales operation frees up more time and resources to focus on finding and building new billboards.

What software do you use to help automate your business?

Adquick.com is a great platform for managing billboard inventory.  We use it to provide a map of our signs on our website as well as create email proposals for advertisers.  We also use mailchimp.com to send out emails to prospective advertisers and existing customers about upcoming promotions.  Docusign.com is a real time saver for e-signatures on our advertiser agreements.  For our general office needs, we rely on google suite and dropbox.com to share worksheets, documents and files.

Why not expand into other states?

Expansion plans are always front of mind, but we continue to find great opportunities close to home.  We are trying to build out some density in the markets we already serve to provide more options to our existing advertisers.

Do you have any digital signs?  If so whose digitals do you use?  What’s your attitude to digital?

We decided to take the plunge into digital advertising and have converted 3 faces to digital so far with another face conversion planned for this Summer.  Digitals are still relatively pricey so we remain very conservative about which faces to convert to digital.  We use Watchfire digitals and have been happy so far.
