CA Considers Ban on Weed Billboards

The California legislature is considering legislation to ban marijuana advertising on freeway billboards according to cannabis now and the Sacramento Bee.  Assembly bill 64 would prohibit a company from advertising:

  • on a billboard or similar advertising device located on an interstate highway or state highway
  • on an advertising sign within 1,000 feet of a day care center, school providing instruction in kindergarten or any grades 1 through 12, or youth center.

The bill has been introduced but has yet to be heard in committee.

Marijuana stores are big billboard advertisers in Insider’s home state of Washington due to a regulatory loophole.  State regulations severely limit the size of advertising signs at a marijuana stores, but the regulations are silent on billboards.
