Virginia Beach Vice Mayor Requests A Sign Turn

When you are a small business, it can be difficult to separate yourself from the pack.  Ray Gessner, who owns A Step In Time a chimney cleaning business decided to post his billboards upside down to draw attention to his business.

It drew a lot of early attention, including the vice mayor of Virginia Beach, Tina Vick, who called the company to see if the upside down billboards were a mistake?

The Mayor explained to Gessner that the signs looked unprofessional and were not a good fit for an area that is struggling to attract investment.

Gessner agreed to have Adams Outdoor reverse all the upside-down billboards.

Insider’s take – you have to give the small business owner credit for trying new ways to draw attention to his business.  Ends up his willingness to flip the boards right side up brought him a windfall of publicity.  See two of the stories in the Daily Press and The Virginian-Pilot.
