Sussex County Heading to Compromise on Sign Code

sussex county logoIn April 2016 the Sussex County planning commission proposed new sign rules for Sussex county.  Local billboard companies proposed their own version of a sign code in May 2016 because they felt they were shut out of the process.  Coastal Point reports that the city council is attempting to resolve differences between the competing proposals.

  • Digital billboards remain contentious.  A couple council members want to ban them.  Other council members don’t.
  • The council is moving towards a proposal to allow non-conforming signs to be repaired or replaced in the event of a disaster.  Previous proposals would have required non-conforming signs to be removed.

Insider’s take: Nice to see the two parties looking to compromise and find agreement rather than taking an all or nothing approach.
