Rate This Board By Out of Home Creative

Rate This Board allows a billboard designer to rate a random piece of billboard artwork using the following scale: 1 (not good), 2 (below average),  3 (average), 4 (very good) or 5 (great). Then the designer talks about what they may have done differently for outdoor advertising. This week’s rating is provided by Melody Roberts, an OBIE nominated billboard designer and founder of Out of Home Creative, an outdoor advertising design firm specializing in out of home design for businesses, agencies, media buyers and out of home companies. Melody has been in the outdoor industry since 1999.

Absolut New York

Rating: 5 (Great)

  • Why not start the New Year with a great 5 star rating? This advertisement is New York chic, a tourist attraction and a media buzz delight.
  • Kudos to the client for selling their brand as a lifestyle (literally) not just a product. Most companies in this category would use a young couple with cocktails in hand for the imagery or just the bottle.
  • The remake of a New York apartment, some of which feel as small as a bottle of Absolut, speaks directly to their target audiences’ lifestyle.
  • Much like Chick-fil-A and Target, Absolut has used out of home to its advantage utilizing it in a way no other marketing can through 3D props bringing their advertisement to life.

  1. That’s hard to look at. I thought it was a Circuit Board at first glance.
Looks like a whole lot of wasted expense to Create and to Install.

  2. I have to agree with you Stuart. Maybe this board is better suited to an urban area with lots of foot traffic. Not sure if it communicates well if you’re flying by at 70 miles an hour.
