Rate This Board by Out of Home Creative

Rate This Board allows a billboard designer to rate a billboard ad using the following scale: 1 (not good), 2 (below average), 3 (average), 4 (very good), 5 (great).  Then the designer recommends how to improve the ad.  This week’s rating is provided by Melody Roberts, an OBIE nominated billboard designer and founder of Out of Home Creative, an outdoor advertising design firm specializing in out of home design for businesses, agencies, media buyers and out of home companies.   • The use of a message is a smart way to run a “now hiring ad” without using the words, “now hiring.”
  • I like how the wording starts in Pink and transitions to Purple to separate the messages against the White and ties-in with their branding colors.
  • If this were not on a wall and low to the ground which is more pedestrian facing, I don’t believe a motorist would have time to read the message in its entirety.
  • I would reduce the words and make the text larger and easier to read.
