Rate This Board By Out of Home Creative

Rate This Board allows a billboard designer to rate a random piece of billboard artwork using the following scale: 1 (not good), 2 (below average), 3 (average), 4 (very good), 5 (great). Then the designer talks about what they may have done differently for outdoor advertising. This week’s rating is provided by Melody Roberts, an OBIE nominated billboard designer and founder of Out of Home Creative, an outdoor advertising design firm specializing in out of home design for businesses, agencies, media buyers and out of home companies. Melody has been in the outdoor industry since 1999.

Coffin & Trout Fine Jewelers – Rating 3 (Average)

  • I believe we’ve all seen the various Rolex templates used in outdoor advertising throughout the years. Their product is usually easily seen but the agency leaves a small area on the template for the store’s information which normally cannot be made out, this is a good example of that.

  • If a consumer is interested in buying a Rolex they can do a retailer search on their mobile, tablet or desktop but as an advertiser, what is the sense in buying OOH if you can’t read your store’s name?

  • I understand this is co-op and that Coffin & Trout had to use their template but I would have encouraged the client to push the agency to allow them to make their logo larger, move the Rolex logo up and get rid of the small Rolex and their emblem so the stores logo could have been even larger.
